Pottery
Handcrafted from start to finish in our on-site studio, this signature style is very unique to Ouray Glassworks & Pottery. With clay that we make from raw materials, we form, smooth out and dry the pieces completely (about 3 weeks). Then, we apply the color (blue, green or beige) with a sponge and the pottery is ready for the first firing (bisque fire). Once the bisque fire is cooled, we dip the pieces into a homemade white glaze and sprinkle bits of glass onto the pieces. We load the kiln again. During the second firing, the glaze fire, the color comes through from behind the white glaze and the glass bits melt and drip onto the pieces. This creates a beautiful matte glaze finish with shining glass to give the pottery a special luster.
